Digital Divide

Digital divide discusses technology between the different status in file e.g. Lower and Higher class citizens. People in the Lower class haven’t got the technology that the Higher/Middle class people have therefore this puts the Lower class citizens at a disadvantage.  The Lowers class countries often don’t have internet they access can’t learn IT skills and can’t gain access to the huge quantity of information that is available on the internet. With the lack of IT skill the Lower class people can’t compete in a World Wide rank. However with the lack of IT equipment they are not on a computer all day they are out socialising with family and friends therefore there socialising skills would be better then the higher class citizens as now as day’s the higher class citizens communicate through technology and have lost many of their general skilled used years ago among people.     

Advantages, Disadavantage and Threats of Jobs

Advantage

People can work from anywhere i.e. warehouse, at home etc. Therefore the cost would be low.  If a problem occurs then it is easy to fix it. You can work your own hours and charge your own price.

Disadvantage

Too many distractions at home i.e. Children running around, personal issues at home.

No face to face communication with customers so therefore no socialising skills being developed. Also less motivation because you are at home so less effort put into the work.

Threat

When working at home there can be loneliness because there is no one else working with you. Also you can’t receive feedback from others.

Gaming

Advantage

Gaming is another way of spending time if you are bored and the weather is not good. Also it gives people the opportunity to talk to other people all over the world. 

Disadvantage

Gaming can be addictive as some people play games for hours. Children can access games over there age because parents are not being  strict  e.g. a 6 year old child can get access to games rate 16. Also children can become addictive leading to lack of physical exercise and social interaction with friends.

Threats

People can experience cyber bullying through online gaming with people using aggressive language through the microphone e.g. shouting threats. People can hack into other people's accounts and steal their details.

Banking online

Advantage

Banking online allows members to check their balance on the computer through the internet. It shows your bank details faster then ATM machines also your online show if you have recently keep withdraw money from your account. Also you don’t have to wait in a queue to use the ATM machine to find out your balance because you have access to your account 24/7. 

Disadvantage

The main concern for most people is trust. They may wonder if their transaction went through successfully or if they clicked on the correct button. The best way to conquer this discomfort is to make a habit of printing the transaction receipt. Keep this receipt until your bank statement or online account view confirms that you have successfully made the transaction. Online banking sites can also take a while to start up and can be difficult to learn initially as there is no customer’s service available online.

Threats

Identity thief – Hackers could steal your personal information and take money out of your account as well as claiming to be you applying for loans etc.  

Shopping online

Advantage

Shopping online is a way of saving money on car fuel; also it means that people aren’t waiting in long queues to pay for their items. The items can be cheaper as there are no prices added on to consumer premises cost or upkeep. An old person doesn’t have to carry large amount of groceries around and instead can have then delivered to there door. In order to buy items online you need a credit or debt card so that the company can take the money straight out of your account this would mean that you wouldn’t have to carry cash around with you. Also the shop is open 24/7 online allowing people to go online and buy items anytime they want.

Disadvantage

However the problem with shopping online is that you lose any social contact with others as for some people going to the shop maybe the only time that they get to talk to other people. Due to misreading details the package could be lost also it isn’t instant delivery you may have to wait at least two weeks before the package arrives. Another problem with shopping online is that you don’t get to feel the material of the clothes to see if they are of good quality also the clothes may not fit, meaning that you will have to pay to return the package. If you don’t have access to the internet or your internet isn’t working properly then you can’t purchase items online. Also there is no sales assistance for advice when you are purchasing something online.  

Threats

Security - Even though you don’t have to carry cash the major problem is that your bank details are being exposed and the website could be false.  The website could contain a virus which means if you go onto the website you automatically install the virus on your computer.  People may be to dependant on online shopping therefore use it all the time and because they are not dealing with cash they could spend too much and create debt.

Social Networking Site

Advantage

Social networking site’s is an easy way of talking to friends outside of school; also you can to talk to relatives or friends who are abroad. On social networking site’s you can use instant messaging therefore when you send a message to a friend that is online you can receive a message within seconds of writing to them.  People can also upload photos of nights out, and share information of events with selected friends.

Disadvantage

 Social networking sits can be time consuming and prevent people from meeting others and doing outdoor activities. Also the downside of sites like Facebook is that you may add people that you don’t know, also you can become addicted to such sties and this could affect work performance and prevent you from personally making arrangements to meet friends etc.

Threats  

Within social networking sites it is common for some people to experience cyber bulling, this is bullying through technology. Also your personal details could be exposed if your profile is not set to private.   One of the major problems with social networking sites is that people put up pictures of themselves which could lead them being stalked. Another issue is that there is sometimes no face to face contact with the people that you talk to on Facebook or any other social networking site. People will get addicted to it and this could lead to lack of exercise.  You can also say where you are at a certain time and this could lead to people knowing that you are not home and break into the house.

Emailing

Advantage

Email is immediate and is used to transport files. You can also send an email to more than one person at a time. You have a copy of the conversion if a problem occur‘s or you forget what you said. Also people can send email’s at anytime if they have unlimited access to the internet. People keep in touch with relative’s that are on the other side of the world, and also send pictures of family encounters that you may have missed.

Disadvantage  

Emails can be misread or misunderstood, also people could be computer literate therefore they may not be able to write or reply back to emails. In order to send an email you must have an email account and internet access. People may not get the email that you sent or they don’t look at their emails on a regular base’s. There is no personal relation between the two people such as eye contact, shaking of hands etc. Also you can only send a certain amount of information through an email.   You could receive junk mail that isn’t relevant to you. Also you don’t get the pleasure especially if it is family to hear their voice, laugher or closeness      

Threats

People that don’t have an email accounts can’t send emails to their loved ones.  You could become distant form your family members aboard or possibly loose a business deal, because emailing does not provide the opportunity of body language which often seal’s a deal for a business.
